Ferragosto in Italy is national holiday. On the 15th of August many people are free from work and use to celebrate with family and friends. The name means “the rest of August” in honor of the roman emperor. They used to celebrate the end of the agricultural works with horses riding. During the years this pagan holiday became a catholic one. The day want to celabrate the assumption of Mary.
Ferragosto today
Today during Ferragosto people use to spend the day with family and friends. Having a barbecue has become a tradition as the day is in summer and perfect to be outside. If people are not away on holiday they get together in the biggest garden and relax with tasty food. Italians love to celebrate and show their love through typical meals!
What to do
As you will be probably already on holiday during these days, relaxing is the main goal! In Bellagio you can defenetly spend a day by the lake. Many are the beaches on the shores. Another option is to rent a boat or book a spot in a lido. At night you could see many fireworks lighting up the sky. These are to celebrate the holiday. A good choice would be to spend the night on the mountain for dinner to enjoy even more the show in an amazing frame like is lake Como.
